Author Interview & Giveaway: Fisher Amelie Talks Vain

Today we are beyond thrilled to have Fisher Amelie with us, author of the bestselling Sleepless series, Callum & Harper and Thomas & January, as well as the bestselling new adult novel Vaina teen romance that is so much more than your usual boy meets girl.

For more of my thoughts on all things Vain, check out my review.

Oh, and you could win a SIGNED copy of Vain plus a bag full of Vain swag!

Now, let’s chat!

Who is Fisher Amelie? Who is the woman behind the words?

Fisher: I’m married with two little boys. I have a male dog named Jonah and a male Beta named Whale…I am surrounded by boys. Needless to say, my daily life consists of identifying smells. LOL! Occasionally, though, I get to sit down at my computer and live in my own world for a few hours. I have the best life. Ever.

Vain isn't your typical girl meets boy teen romance. Were you ever worried readers would be put off by Sophie? What was it like to be inside of her head?

Fisher: When I began this book, I didn’t think a single soul would truly read it save for a handful of lovely die-hard fans so I wrote it the way I wanted. It sounds strange to say, but I felt so uninhibited. I wrote it without apologies. I filled her with every vile attribute I could possible think of and I knew people would have a tough time reading her but I decided that was okay. She needed to be terrible for the story to be any good and I wasn’t going to change her for anything in the world, sales be darned.

Sophie was so fun to write. I know that sounds odd but I knew her end fate so it was easier for me to write her with such abandon. Writing an awful heroine felt unique to me so I ran with it.

Why do you believe readers would enjoy a romantic book affair with Ian? For me, it's the crazy amazing things that come out of his mouth, like: “I knew you were beautiful, knew it very well, but it’s like I just woke up to the idea. There’s something about you now, Soph. You exude something and I can’t quite place my finger on it. You practically glow with it. You devastate me,” he said, clutching at his heart.

Fisher: I love that declaration!!! So glad you do too!...Ian is a fictional manifestation of my dream guy. I figured, if I found him so incredible, then others would as well.

What was the hardest scene to write in Vain? Do you have a favorite scene?

Fisher: The hardest scene to write was Karina’s scene in the end with the burning baobab tree. Oh my word, I sort of hated myself when I wrote that scene. I was sobbing all over myself. LOL!

My favorite scene to write was probably the scene where Ian teaches Sophie how to shoot a gun. He’s so…swoony!

If you could cast the movie version of Vain, who would play Sophie and Ian?

Fisher: I get asked this a lot and I’m afraid my answer will disappoint but I couldn’t imagine anyone famous as Sophie or Ian. They’re too real, too innocent for anyone in Hollywood to play them. I’d have to cast virtual unknowns to play them in order for me to be satisfied. I have this perfect idea in my head of what they look like and I’m afraid it would be impossible for reality to live up to it.

While writing Vain, what music did you listen to?

Fisher: I listened to all sorts of eclectic tunes! VAIN Playlist Here!

What is the most unusual resource you have ever used while writing?

Fisher: Let’s see. I can’t think of anything interesting. I use all the usual: Thesaurus.com, YouTube, Google, loads of books. I think YouTube is probably the most unusual just because there are so many incredibly interesting vids out there. They let me see things as trivial as what the dirt looked and felt like. I could empathize with the people there just by listening to and watching them.

Can you share with us what you're currently working on? Or what we can expect from you next?

Fisher: I am! VAIN is book one of The Seven Deadly Series and I’m writing the second, GREED, starring Spencer, as we speak. The series are not a continuation of the last novel though. Each book is a companion novel to the last featuring an entirely new leading character and story and will cover one of the seven deadly sins.

Thank you so much!!! - Fisher

About the Author

Fisher Amelie is the author of The Leaving Series, Callum & Harper and Thomas & January. She began her writing career as a copywriter for an internet marketing company wherein one of their client's said, 'Hey! You're funny. You should write books'. Which in turn she said, 'Hey, get out of here! This is the lady's restroom.' While washing her hands and the embarrassment from her face, she thought they may have had a valid point. So, she took the thousands of hours of writing stories growing up, tucked them into her pocket and began writing and writing and writing.

  10. It's not a typical perfect girl gets in trouble. It is more than that, it had depth of opening the readers eye on the obvious and real world. And the idea of using the titles and being able to create a wonderdul story is superb!
