Nearly Broken by Devon Ashley
New Adult / Contemporary
Devon Ashley (June 6, 2013)

Synopsis:

We’d both gone missing at one point, but Claire had one thing I didn’t. Someone to notice. So why was I the one still here and she the one still gone?

Nineteen year old Megan Smith has spent the past year working in a small town diner in the middle of nowhere. Life is quiet, simple, safe. Then comes the news that her look-a-like has gone missing.

Claire.

Still damaged both physically and mentally, Megan's not looking to be noticed. Wherever she goes from here, it's a road she needs to take alone. But when Nickolas Ellis takes the job as the new nightshift cook, it scares her how easily her defenses crumble down, down, down for him. But there are secrets she can't bear to share with just anyone, unspeakable acts that continue to haunt, and when the similarities of Claire’s abduction couples with the fear of an unwanted visitor in town, the urge to run before it all happens again intensifies, threatening the only happiness Megan's ever found.

My Five Favorite Broken Heroes by Devon Ashley

Hmm…best broken heroes and heroines in romance. I’m sure there are a slew of great books out there spotlighting broken characters, particularly in the New Adult genre. But truthfully, I haven’t read many of them yet. My to-read list is full of novels like Hopeless by Colleen Hoover, Easy by Tamara Webber, Beautiful Disaster by Jaime McGuire, etc., which I know will all have characters that are perfect for this list. But seeing as how I have yet to get to those, I went looking through the ones that I have, and I found some damaged characters I think you guys are gonna love. If you haven't read them yet, check them out already!

· Noel FalconRock the Heart by Michelle Valentine: Dumped by the love of his life before he made it big, no girl has ever lived up to Noel’s first love. So when he finds out his charity project is being run by the company employing Lane, desperate times call for desperate actions. He forces an ultimatum on her to keep her job, ensuring he’ll have her around to prove he’s worth her love, but he’s gonna have to own up to the one secret he knows could lose her forever.

· Andrew ParrishThe Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski: When two strangers meet on a bus to nowhere, you never know that the guy helping Camryn find her way is way more broken than she is, and it makes you fall in love with him that much more, despite the tears he’s sure to cause you when you learn his true story.

· Jake and SamanthaWhat I Didn’t Say by Keary Taylor: Jake has loved Samantha forever, but as of late, she’s been blowing everything and everyone off. When Jake finally sums up the courage to tell her, he crashes on the way and ends up with a T-post through his throat, permanently destroying his vocal chords. Sam is the one person who can teach him sign language, so in a way, he’s finally able to get the girl. But as time goes by, he begins to notice she’s degrading before his eyes, and soon learns that her secret reality is far worse than his.

· CalebCaptive in the Dark by C.J. Roberts: It’s hard to call this guy a hero since he’s an abductor breaking Livvie to become a pleasure slave so he can exact revenge on the source of his pain, but the girl he’s trying to break actually begins breaking him, making him feel things he never saw coming.

· Sarai and VictorKilling Sarai by J.A. Redmerski. Sarai has spent the past nine years of her life enslaved by a Mexican drug lord. When the opportunity arises, she risks everything to jump into the back of an American’s car on leave from the compound. Unfortunately, the man she holds a gun on is a skilled assassin as broken as she is, and with millions of dollars hanging on the line, he’s also the most unlikely person in the world to help her find her way back home.

  13. Broken heroes?? Travis Maddox, for sure. I believe he's at the top of the list. Pax Tate from If You Stay is super close to the top, as well. Josh Bennett from The Sea of Tranquility, Hunter West from Selling Scarlett, and Gideon Cross from Bared to You are also on the list.... among many others. It's a long list.

Thanks for the chance! I've been dying to read this book! (:
