Guest Post & Giveaway: Jodi Redford is Checking It Twice
Today we are excited to have Jodi Redford with us, author of thirteen novels—including her latest release Checking It Twice! A book that contains an extremely tormented voyeur, a very naughty and not so saintly Nick, a liberal application of candy cane-flavored body paint, a buzzing butterfly, and enough raunchy fun on a sex swing to melt a snowman…or two.
Oh, and you could win a small Kindle Fire!
Let’s give Miz Redford a round of cyber applause and a warm welcome. Take it away, Jodi!
He Sees You When You’re Sleeping: Voyeurism Ain’t Just for Santa
Okay, I admit it, when I first sat down and thought about writing a Christmas book that featured voyeurism I questioned my sanity…and whether I shouldn’t have had that second glass of wine before plotting out my story. But I digress. Christmas is a cherished holiday. It’s supposed to be about crowded shopping lines, spiked egg nog, and reindeer involved in a hit and run with grandma. I could also mention something about shiny balls, but let’s face it, I’ve already tarnished this holiday enough. But then I got to thinking about Santa. Actually, I was thinking about the wisdom of a third glass of wine, but again, I digress. So back to my ole man, SC, and his whole role in making me realize that I was on the right track with this story.
I present to you Exhibit A:
He Sees You When You’re Sleeping.
Yes, folks, it’s true. Santa is a voyeur. He set the dang precedent. I’m just preaching the gospel here.
Hit with this shocking epiphany, how could I not write a naughty Christmas book featuring voyeurism? It’d be like me going against my calling. Or something equally disturbing. So I put on my plotting cap (Not to be mistaken with my plotting sombrero, which I only wear during Cinco De Mayo.) and bypassed my third glass of wine for some serious, heavy duty character building. What I got surprised me, and the end result is one of my favorite books and heroes to date.
Kevin Monahan, the tormented voyeur from Checking It Twice…well, to be completely honest, I might have fell a wee bit in love with him. I ached for Kev through his inability to let go of the demons from his past that weighed at him, and made him feel nothing but ashamed and guilt ridden for his voyeuristic tendencies. Through him and his story, I learned the shackling power that other’s judgments and prejudices can wield over us. But through my heroine, Jana, and my other hero, Nick, I discovered the amazing healing power that can come from those who love you unconditionally and accept you for everything you are. Even if that something you are just happens to enjoy watching others involved in sexy times.
So in the end, I guess I owe a world of thanks to Santa for bravely admitting to being a voyeur. He paved the way for worldwide acceptance one day. Hopefully.
Now if only he’ll get my address right this year for delivering those Chippendale Dancers.

ReplyDeletebusyVAmom, that's a great question! I always let the characters lead the scene. If it doesn't feel right, then they'll tell me. But I've got to say, most of my characters are all too willing to take it to the limits. ;)
LOL - yes, it seems Santa is a voyeur!! Too funny!

I can totally see how Santa is a voyeur. I have never understood how children love him so much. He spies on you, breaks into your house, and eats your food. It is amazing he doesn't give kids nightmares, lol.
ReplyDeleteI am very eager to read this book though! Thanks so much for the post & giveaway.
