Hey Lorelei...I bet after last weekend at RAGT you thought you'd be off the hook with questions from me and my oh so nosey husband, huh?  But because, I know some people out there might be interested in knowing some of the things he asked you the first two questions are from him and I left out the insanely personal ones he asked!

Slick's hubster:  If you could spend one night with one of the McKay's which one would it be and why?

Any of the McKays? Hmm...asking the tough questions right off the bat, but today I'd have to say...Bennett McKay.

Slick's hubster:  Have you even considered writing a woman that turns the tables on one of your dominate men?  One that looks at the man when he's being demanding and says, "yeah right, how about you do that and then we'll talk."

I haven't considered that for the Rough Riders series, but my new series--The Surrender Series--which debuts early next year--has more possibilities for that type of scenario since the books feature bondage and a sex club with Dominants and submissives. Then there's always the Rawhide Club, from COWBOY CASANOVA. I've gotten tons of questions on whether I'd be interested in turning that concept into a series.

Slick: You probably figured I'd ask this one since we've conversed about it many times, when the hell am I going to get my story about Ramona and the rest of the West side?

Well, you're in luck, you heard it here first! DR. FEELGOOD, Doc Monroe, Chet and Remy West's story in the Wild West Boys series is scheduled to release in December 2013!

Slick:  If you could take two months off and do anything you wanted to and go anywhere you wanted and money was no object, what would you do and why?

I would visit all the islands in the Caribbean and just chill out. Recharge my batteries and sun and sand and water always does it for me.

Paula: Hi Heidi, glad to have you with us at Romantic Book Affairs. Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Are you a full time writer? Hobbies? Family?

Heidi: Hi Paula, thanks for having me. No, I’m not a full-time writer, although I’d welcome that opportunity any day. During the day I work for a municipality in land use and while it sounds like a boring job, it’s a lot of learning and interpreting laws. My hobbies would be writing and reading mostly however, I spend a lot of time watching my daughters play basketball or at other high school sporting events.

Paula: Tell us a little bit about Forever My Girl.

Heidi: Forever My Girl started when my friend posted a picture of a drummer on Facebook. The story line was instant. I saw a guy who was looking to redeem himself, one that had lost the most important person in his life due to his actions. It took all of 90-minutes for the story line to be mapped out.

Paula: Why did you decide to write this book?

Heidi: Forever My Girl is actually my 2nd (and half book). I was in the middle of a YA contemp story when the story line for FMG happened. I shelved the YA story and went ahead with FMG. The why – it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but didn’t think I had it in me. I challenged myself.

Paula: I fell hard for the sexy, tattooed rock star! Why do you believe readers would enjoy a romantic book affair with Liam?

Heidi: Why not? Haha. Liam is different. While he may be cocky in some parts of the story, he doesn’t have to act like that with Josie. He needed her to accept him as the tattooed rocker and not the straight-laced football player she fell in love with. As a reader, you can’t help but fall for him. He doesn’t treat her poorly, accepts his responsibilities and is trying to make amends for his actions all while trying to prove himself to the one girl he left behind whether he wins her or not.

Paula: While writing Forever My Girl, what music did you listen to? Does Liam's band resemble a favorite band of yours?

Heidi: Believe it or not, I had to listen to a lot of songs about lost love, or broken hearts. OneRepublic, Howie Day, Adele – these artists write angst like crazy. A lot of 80’s songs too. I didn’t pick a time period for FMG because I didn’t want that era’s music associated with the story, but music was a big influence. As for Liam’s band – OneRepublic, Daughtry – any of the bands that can rock it out at any moment, or slow it down to make those ladies in the front row fall to their knees.

Ironically, my friend sent me a song after she read the first few chapters and that song became the song Liam sings. What’s nice about this is the artist, Eric Heatherly, is giving a free download of Painkillers to the first 200 purchases when their receipt is emailed the thebeaumontseries@gmail.com.

Eric has been a huge supporter of FMG from the beginning and we are looking forward to having a long lasting working relationship.

Paula: I love casting my heroes and heroines. If Forever My Girl were to be cast into a movie, who would you cast as Liam and Josie?

Heidi: Liam would be someone like Stephen Amell and Josie would be Miranda Kerr.

Paula: When you go to the bookstore, what section to you go to first? What is your favorite book or series?

Heidi: Lately – adult contemp or new adult. I like the risk that authors are willing to take. I want the love, the romance and the under the sheets – as long as it’s not over done. There has to be an air of mystery and imagination when reading a love scene. If you can’t picture it, or feel it, you shouldn’t be reading it. I don’t need details.

Paula: I had the privilege and honor to read Forever My Girl early. I absolutely loved it. You've created a wonderful cast of characters and now I'm dying for the next book. How many books do you have planned for the The Beaumont Series?

Heidi: I have 8 total mapped out. One will be a novella for Liam and Josie, so you haven’t seen the last of them as the main characters. And before panic ensues, they aren’t going away, they are always around. The first chapter of the next Beaumont Series will be in the paperback and e-book.

Who is Amelia James? Give us the skinny on the woman behind the words.

Amelia: Amelia James is a slut: Sexually Liberated Uninhibited Temptress. She's my evil twin, the woman I'd like to be. The real me is actually pretty normal. I'm a tired mom, a happy wife, a terrible housekeeper, and a lazy cook. Amelia is a lot more fun.

What made you decide to write erotica?

Amelia: I didn't choose this genre. It chose me. I grew up in a very conservative and fundamental family and community. Sex was a big dirty secret so I read romance novels to educate myself. After I got married, I wrote a few short stories, got a couple published, and I've been writing romance and erotica ever since.

What is the most unusual resource you have ever used while writing?

Amelia: I can't divulge that without getting some people in trouble. ;) (Including me.)

Erotica and erotic romance, especially if it has some kink, have become more mainstream as of late. Why do you think that is? And how do you feel about the label 'mommy porn' that's been given to them?

Amelia: I think it's become more mainstream because it fulfills a need, appealing to the natural human desire to explore the forbidden, and creating a hunger for more. The general public has finally figured out what I've known for a long time: reading erotica is good for you!

/begin rant 'Mommy porn' is insulting. Romance novels and erotica are not porn. Really. Porn is entertainment. Erotica is entertainment that's empowering to women, to men, to the readers, and to the characters. Why is it surprising that moms like sex? How do they think we got to be moms? Why are young, single women encouraged to enjoy their sexuality, but moms are expected to be entirely focused on their children? Motherhood is just one part of my life. It's a big one, but it isn't everything. Romance novels tell compelling stories with strong characters and gripping conflicts, but people who label it mommy porn (especially the media) can't get past the sex scenes to base their criticism on the story. Erotic romance is the same as any other genre... with a little extra sex. /end rant

Her Twisted Pleasures is your most recent release. Tell us a little about it.

Amelia: It's a mosaic novel, a series of related stories about the messed-up relationships between Talia, her boyfriend, Will, and his best friend, Alex. It's an erotic novel—not a romance—definitely not for everyone.

Her Twisted Pleasures embraces the kink. There is pseudo-cheating, some light bondage, erotic asphyxiation, and even a brief ménage. What was your inspiration for this sexy story? And what made you include those elements in it?

Amelia: I like variety. ;) I was daydreaming about one guy, but I wanted another guy too, so I decided to have them both. I played 'what if?' with the characters and one thing led to another.... Writing erotica allows me to explore fantasies that might otherwise be unacceptable.

Why do you believe readers would enjoy a romantic book affair with Alex Sheridan? (I'm picking him because he's my fav-o-rite! Yum!)

Amelia: Alex fits my definition of a bad boy: A bad boy is not marriage material. He’s not even relationship material. He is raw sex. He’s dangerous. You don’t know what kind of trouble he’s going to start, but you can bet it’s gonna be a thrill ride. You can’t control him. He doesn’t ask you what you like in bed. He tells you. Sometimes he doesn’t even tell you. Talk is overrated. He doesn’t make love or have sex with you. He fucks you. He fucks you well. He’s not afraid to get a little rough. A broken bed frame and a bruise or two means you had a good night. He can do romance if that's what you want, but Alex is more suited to an affair... for now.

What can you share with us about the sequel to Her Twisted Pleasures? Any other delightfully sinful works coming soon?

Amelia: It'll be released next year. I'm going to give Alex, Talia, and Will their happy endings, but I'm still deciding how to do that. I suspect it'll take a lot of drama and conflict (and sex) so it should be a pretty good book (or two).

In the meantime, my next erotic romance novel, Secret Storm, releases October 2, 2012; and my couples' erotica story collection, The Devil Made Me Do It, releases in November.

What are some of your favorite books or authors that you’ve read? Naughty or nice. Although, if I'm being honest, I'm hoping for naughty!

Amelia: Scottish historical romances are my favorite. Men in kilts! I love Kinley MacGregor, Karen Marie Moning, and Teresa Medeiros. Some of the new authors I love are Lori Whitwam, Kendall Grey and Eden Baylee. They all write naughty steamy stuff.

Describe your own most twisted pleasure or fantasy in ten words or less.

Amelia: Being spoiled by a half-naked hottie with food and drinks.

Amelia James I got hooked on trashy romance novels in junior high, but my mom took them away from me, But she couldn’t stop me from daydreaming. After I got married, I wrote some of my naughtier daydreams down and sent them to Playgirl magazine. Two of them got published. I kept daydreaming and writing stories until my dirty stories turned into trashy books. I live in Colorado, but I’ll always be a loyal Wisconsin Cheesehead. When I’m not lusting after my next bad boy hero, I’m looking for inspiration in sci-fi and action movies, football players, bloodsucking lawyers, muscle cars, and kick-butt chicks. You can find me on Facebook, and on Twitter I’m known as Trashy Writer. I call myself a trashy writer because I want my readers to know that I enjoy mindless escapism as much as they do. I’m not out to win a Pulitzer Prize. I just want to help someone relax and get away from it all for a little while. I write romance, erotica and trash for fun and pleasure.
