Review:

Josh Scott, owner of Mavericks – a sex club that caters to people’s most wanton whims, is feeling restless. Not willing to look within himself for the reason, he decides to open a second club in Montreal. Start fresh, leave the past behind. But before he moves on, he wants to make sure two important people in his life, Beth and Oliver, realize their feelings for each other.

Beth Norris has worked for Josh, as his assistant manager, since she was fired from Pulled Long coffeehouse in book two, Shot in the Dark. She has become Josh’s right-hand woman and the two have grown close over the years. But not as close as Beth would like. Since meeting him, she has had a crush on both Josh and Oliver.

Oliver Stephenson, head bartender at the club, is going through a nasty divorce. A divorce that has caused him to reevaluate himself, his life—everything. When he realizes he’s crushing on both Beth and Josh, the formerly straight guy has a lot to think about.

And when you combine the three, well, watch out. It is going to get lusty. And messy. Josh, Beth, and Oliver are three people with some serious relationship hang ups. When you mix that with a woman with a penchant for femdom, a man who tops, bottoms, and loves both sexes equally, and another man who likes to be dominated and is just beginning to explore his kinkier side—yeah. Watch out.

Because it all adds up to some kinky, kinky stuff. Seriously. There is one scene in particular, when Beth is REALLY getting her femdom on, that had my eyes widening and my cheeks blushing. It was a new experience, lemme tell ya. Wow.

I feel very conflicted when it comes to Calling the Shots. I liked the characters, I liked the sex, but I would have liked a lot less drama. This book has drama and more drama, I kid you not. And, I’m sorry, but (with the exception of Josh) it felt like a whine fest at times. So, while Calling the Shots is a kinktastic ménage free-for-all love story… it comes with too much baggage for my tastes.
