Heroine: Ashton Garrison – Secretive, Snarky
Hero: Nathan Lockton – Private Investigator, Charming
Review:
Ashton Garrison ran away from her life to avoid an unknown future and to avoid putting someone she loves greatly through a lot of unwanted heartache. Ashton has created a list of things she’s always wanted to do in her life. One of them includes moving to a small town where everyone knows everything about everyone. Another thing on her list is to have a sexy one night stand with a stranger. That’s how she meets Nathan one night in a bar with her two friends, who talk her into walking up to Mr. Hot and sexy and Totally Screwable.
Enter Nathan Lockton – sexy, charming, and jaded by a woman from his past. Nathan is a private investigator, hired to find Ashton, and when he does, he is to let his client know her whereabouts. When Ashton approaches Nathan in the bar, he pretends to be a freelance journalist passing through town on his way to his next assignment. As the shots keep coming, these two flirtatiously banter back and forth - which leads to a very funny scene where a very drunk Ashton gets her tongue tied.
“Are you going to put your trunk in my head?" I asked, finally able to make my tongue work.
“Excuse me,” he asked amused.
“Wait. I mean, are you going to put your trunk in me?” I asked, though the question still seemed slightly off.
So, as the sexual tension rises and Ashton becomes more and more intoxicated, there is no doubt in her mind… She is going home with Nathan. Knowing he needs to keep his part in this charade as impersonal as possible, Nathan plays along with Ashton’s proposal to go home with her. But Nathan, the gentleman he is, leaves a passed out Ashton at home in her bed. He wishes the circumstances were different between them as he immediately became infatuated with Ashton that night. The next morning, Ashton wakes up alone in her cabin, suddenly realizing she didn’t have a one night stand with Mr. Tall Drink of Handsomeness. Embarrassed by her behavior, she’s relieved that she doesn’t have to see him again. So she thinks.
When Ashton decided it’s time to mark another adventure off her list by jumping off a bridge into a river, Mr. Hot and Sexy heroically saves Ashton, even though she didn’t really need saving. This funny and very wet encounter leads them to having a no strings attached affair, since neither one of them are interested in having serious relationship. This affair turns out to be more than both of them had bargained for. It gets a little harder to maintain a no strings attached relationship when lines become blurred and both Nathan and Ashton are unsure how to deal with their feelings towards one another. Which leads Nathan to decide he wants to forget about his rules and really get to know more about Ashton. Why is she running from her past? But when a chain of events threaten to reveal Ashton’s secret, what happens when Nathan finds out the truth? And what happens when Ashton figures out Nathan’s true reason for being in town?
I loved Ashton and Nathan together. They’re fun and quirky and exactly what each other needed when they were both alone and dealing with their issues. Ashton had a hard keeping her emotions in check when she was around Nathan. She also lost all sense of coolness around him. Something about Nathan caused her to be clumsy and tongue tied. I loved the hilarious moments where things just don’t always go as planned between them. Not to mention Nathan has a charming personality that was hard to for Ashton to resist. He charmed her panties right off of her.
Nathan has never felt this way about any woman. He loves Ashton’s sass and the way she makes him laugh and smile. He was missing these things in his lonely life. So, as their feelings begin to bloom, the no strings attached rule begins to diminish all together. Nathan’s presence in Ashton’s life helps her find the strength she needs for when she is finally ready to face reality. And being with Ashton helps Nathan overcome his past hurts and ready to move on with a woman who makes him happy. So, before they knew it what was happening, they had given away their heart to one another.
Ashton and Nathan are very passionate and sexy together. Even though they had only known each for a week, there is still a slow, sexy burn between them. And the kisses were definitely toe curling. These two definitely earned their first sexy time together, after several funny incidents kept making things impossible for them. But when they finally do the deed, it was well worth the wait.
No Attachments is a heart-breaking but funny and sweet story about betrayal, lies, loss, love, finding strength and happiness in those you love. The ending of this story was heart-wrenching. During this part of the book, I cried a thousand tears of sadness and then a thousand more happy tears. This is my first book by Tiffany King and won’t be my last. I really enjoyed her writing style and quirky sense of humor that lightened up a story that has a very serious theme. My hope is that Miz King plans to write more with the secondary characters she introduced in this story. (hint, hint Miz King – wink!)
