Review:
Vanessa McGregor, a successful lawyer, lives a very well-structured and planned life. In order to maintain control and overcome her past, she’s created seven strict rules to live by. They have worked perfectly for Vanessa up until she meets Jackson, her best friend’s brother. Jackson challenges Vanessa’s rules and, for the first time in her life, she has finally met her match in this man.
7. Never take your responsibilities lightly.
6. Never indulge in the poison of lies.
5. Never let a fling last more than three days.

Vanessa’s best friend, Lucie, is getting married in Hawaii. After Lucie gets food poisoning, Vanessa agrees to go to Hawaii a week early to help with the wedding. To her annoyance, Lucie’s brother is late picking her up at the airport. And, when he finally does arrive, he not only passes it off as ‘no big deal,’ but he begins to immediately take control and boss Vanessa around. Vanessa cannot believe she has been stuck with this man who doesn’t see that he’s done anything wrong. To top it all off, he called her Princess. This arrogant, inconsiderate, surfer boy completely rubs Vanessa the wrong way.
Jackson “Jax” Maris loves living in Hawaii where he can surf whenever he wants and train at the best MMA camp to compete professionally. When he first meets Vanessa, he is confused by the firecracker redhead who is spitting mad that he’s arrived late. She’s pissed. He’s amused. And the verbal sparring begins. Jackson is not used to any woman being so uptight and controlling. But, to his surprise, he’s attracted to the beautiful, sassy woman that keeps him on his toes.
As they continue to verbally spar back and forth with each other, Jax realizes he’s not willing to tap out to this woman. He immediately thinks up a plan to win this round by convincing her they need to pose as the engaged couple so they can ensure the wedding will continue as planned. This would also ensure that Jax would get to spend a lot more time with Vanessa. She agrees to do this so she can make sure her best friend has the wedding of her dreams. As Jax’s deception spins out of control, this little charade turns into a super sexy fling.
“I also call her Red, Viper, Princess, and behind her back, Woman-who’s-driving me-fucking-insane.”
Oh, Vanessa, you stubborn, feisty woman… I wanted to strangle and hug you at the same time. She has some severe issues that stem from her past and that keep her from opening up to any man – hence, the seven rules. So, even though Jax made her laugh, smile, relax and have fun, she was too damn stubborn and afraid to admit that she was actually liked him. Instead, she propositions him to have a fling for three days. Knowing he only has three days to woo and seduce Vanessa, he does everything in his power to show her he is the one man worth breaking all her rules for.
There are so many things I adore about Jackson. He’s smooth, funny, playful, arrogant, bossy, and has the biggest, kindest heart. Even though he had his own dark secret that he wrestles with every day, he still opened himself up to Vanessa. I adore that he never gave up on Vanessa no matter how many times she drove him crazy. He relentlessly chipped away at her defenses until her walls started to crumble and she finally let him in. When she pulled back from him, he would pull her right back into his arms. Seriously, the man is divine.
“I want to give myself” – she dropped her gaze to his chest, the deference seeming both a betrayal to herself as well as an awakening – “and my orgasms over to you.”
The chemistry between these two was incredibly potent. Jax may be easygoing, but in the bedroom he is all Alpha. He definitely showed his dominant and controlling side as he managed to make Vanessa, the control freak, submit to him. And, oh my god, Jackson definitely knows his way around a woman’s body. Which brings me to some very hot and steamy scenes that involves lots of kinky body shots and tequila, jet skis, and waterfalls… oh my. Cheers to Gina Maxwell for writing some very creative and smoking hot sex scenes. *fans self*
Rules of Entanglement has the perfect balance of humor, romance, angst, drama, and really hot sexy times. I absolutely loved every lusty, sweet, and spicy moment between these two. Even though it started out as just a fling, they slowly build up trust and friendship and eventually love. I loved watching this couple fumble with love and unravel in each other’s arms. They both have issues to work out within themselves, and as they become entangled within each other, they were finally able to come to terms with their past.
