Hero: Chris Merit – Ruggedly Sexy, Famous Painter
Review:
Lisa Renee Jones promised answers and, oh boy, do we get them. Two of our biggest questions get answered: Who is Rebecca's Master and where is Rebecca? To get those answers, Miz Jones takes us back into the emotional and volatile world of Sara McMillan. Being Me picks up right where If I Were You left off—with Sara alone in a darkened storage locker in the middle of the night. What happens after that, well, it's best experienced by reading it! :)
In Being Me, Sara McMillan is loving her job but not feeling secure in it. She’s loving Chris Merit but, again, not feeling secure in their relationship. Worried and borderline paranoid, Sara is more focused on Rebecca than herself. Rebecca, Rebecca, Rebecca! Don’t get me wrong, I’d be determined to get to the bottom of that mystery too. Just not at the exclusion of everything else.
Thankfully, Chris steps up and tries to make Sara take care of Sara. He takes some pretty big steps for her. Rearranging his life, getting in touch with people who can investigate Rebecca Mason, and generally protecting Sara. Physically and emotionally. I wasn’t sure exactly how I felt about Chris after the first book (I had a secret compartment in my heart for Mark…) but I get it now. Chris all the way, baby!
Because for a man who’s used to simply effing, when he decides he’s going to make love to a woman… he does it right. Hands, mouth, fingers—he knows what he’s doing. And Sara benefits from that knowledge. A lot. Like, a lot a lot. I must take a moment to thank Miz Jones for all of those steaming sex scenes (truly, they are smokin’), so, thank you!
Dirty stuff aside, it really did mean something each time they came together because we get to know them better. I enjoyed seeing more of Sara’s past. Finding out why she's estranged from her father and what that secret is that’s been weighing on her. It really gave insight into her character and some of the issues she has. I am also so, so glad we get to delve deeper into Chris and his dark needs. The ugly sides of himself that he tries to hide. There are lots of things revealed about both of them… but just as many new questions pop up. I want to know more! I need to know more! Especially about that ruggedly handsome, motorcycle riding artist bad boy. I’m dying to know the why behind those dark needs.
Even though we get to know Chris and Sara better, I will admit they often confused me. They’re so passionate at times but it comes and goes. The back and forth kind of drove me insane. They love each other, they don't love each other. They trust each other, they don't trust each other. Hard to keep track of these two. So much pushing and pulling. I hope these two crazy kids can figure it out soon because I’m not sure how much more my heart can take.
In Being Me, we get to see so many new sides to all the characters. Different facets are revealed about everyone—Sara, Chris, Mark, Ricco. Questions are answered but this trilogy is far from over. Miz Jones has such a talent with weaving mystery and suspense. I can't wait to find out more about Chris. And Mark. And Chris and Mark as ex-friends/frenemies. I'm actually pretty happy that the Rebecca-thing is resolved because I find the characters of Sara, Mark, and Chris more interesting. I'm looking forward to getting to them even better, without Rebecca in the middle.
Oh, and there is a pretty cool cameo by a couple of Miz Jones characters from another series. So if you're a fan of her other work, look for that.

“Woman—”
“Save your commands for another more enticing time, Chris. I’m not staying in the car. Haven’t you watched Friday the 13th? Michael slashes the girl in the car.”
“Michael is from Halloween. Jason is Friday the 13th.”
“Whoever he is, he slashes the girl in the car. I’m not staying in the car.”
