Heroine: Cora Lewis - Body Piercer, Firecracker
Hero: Rome Archer – Soldier, Broken
Synopsis:
Sometimes the wrong choice can be just right . . .
Fun and fearless, Cora Lewis knows how to keep her tattooed "bad boy" friends at the Marked in line. But beneath all that flash and sass is a broken heart. Cora won't let herself get burned again. She's waiting to fall in love with the perfect man—a baggage-free, drama-free guy ready for commitment. Then she meets Rome Archer.
Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He's stubborn, rigid, and bossy. And he's returned from his final tour of duty more than a little broken. Rome's used to filling many roles: big brother, doting son, super soldier—but none of those fit anymore. Now he's just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the dark demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer through it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes a blinding flash of color in a sea of gray.Perfect may not be in the cards, but perfectly imperfect could just last forever . . .
Review:
“You were right, you are perfect for me because I’m just as imperfect as you are, but with you, it’s all just flawless.”
Rome Archer has always been the rock and military hero of the family. Being the oldest brother to his twin siblings Remy and Rule, he took on the role as their protector; always looking out for them. Joining the army meant everything to Rome. He had purpose in life as the leader of his men. Now that he’s out of the military, Rome feels lost and unsure about his life. He also suffers from PTSD, has family problems, and is struggling with civilian life. Rome is hurting, feeling like a shell of the man he used to be, and now his unhappiness has put distance between him and the people who love him.
Then enters Cora Lewis, who works as a body piercer and receptionist at the tattoo parlor, Marked, where Rule works. She’s may be tiny, sparkly, and colorful, but she’s a fierce force to be reckoned with; not afraid to speak her mind and put Rome in his place. Cora is not without her own issues, which stem from her ex-boyfriend cheating on her, shattering her heart and her trust. She’s now determined to find a man without any emotional baggage and refuses to settle for anything less than Mr. Perfect.
Rome is not Mr. Perfect but Cora can’t stop thinking about the broody, big, sexy man with gorgeous baby blues, ever since the day she dumped her beer on his head for being an ass at a get together. It may not have been love at first sight, but it was certainly lust and an undeniable attraction is formed. And since Cora is the type of girl that likes to fix other people’s problems, knowing Rome is in a dark place, she not only finds herself attracted to him, but has the urge to fix him.
These two damaged individuals, who have a ton of emotional baggage, found exactly what they needed within each other. They are opposites attract yet so much alike at the same time. Cora, with all her bright colors and kindness, is exactly what Rome needed to pull himself out of his depression. She gave him a reason to get his life together. Cora may have wanted Mr. Perfect but what she found was Rome, who is beautifully broken but a man who would do anything for Cora. I love how Rome and Cora talked through their issues and I wasn’t annoyed by their drama. I felt the emotion throughout the story and the ending had me in tears. Their relationship may have started explosively hot and fast, but it wasn’t long before it became a sweet romance that simmered with the right amount of heat and steam. Jay Crownover does a wonderful job developing these characters.
The one thing I didn’t like? The plot twist was annoying. I will be vague since it’s a big spoiler. The plot twist was played out as an ‘oopsie I forgot something’ and it just seemed so unbelievable and out of character. Was there really no other way to write this part of the story more convincing? It didn’t ruin the story for me, but I did have a serious eye roll moment and moved on from it.
Through heartache, humor, intense chemistry and a sweet romance, I was given a great story about two imperfect yet real characters that fall in love. And let me tell you ladies… Rome is straight up panty dropping hot. That hunk of a man made me want to mark him as mine he’s so incredible. And I think fans of this series will enjoy revisiting with the previous characters in this series. Though this is the third book in the Marked Men series, this book can be read as a stand-alone and should be moved up on your TBR list.

About the Author I'm supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I'm an natural redhead even though I haven't seen my real hair color in years, I'm a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I've been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that. I love to write, love to read and all I'm interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something. Thanks for taking the time to check my stuff out.... |
