Emancipating Andie by Priscilla Glenn
Priscilla Glenn (April 5, 2013)

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age Group: Adult

Synopsis:

Ever since the one time Andie Weber threw caution to the wind - and paid the price for it - she’s learned that it’s safer and smarter to live life playing by the rules. Now she’s got a great apartment, a steady job, and a wonderful boyfriend in Colin; he’s sweet, stable, and essentially perfect – except maybe for the fact that his best friend is Chase.

Chase McGuire lives his carefree, unstructured life strictly for himself. Dripping sarcasm and oozing wit, he refuses to censor his feelings or opinions for anyone, making no apologies for either and wearing his abrasiveness like a badge of honor. No one has ever gotten under Andie’s skin the way Chase does – and vice versa.

So when Andie and Chase find themselves forced to take a two-day road trip together, they are already dreading an inevitable all-out war. But as the trip progresses, and the undeniable friction that has always defined their relationship slowly begins to wear away their preconceived notions of each other, Andie and Chase discover they both have a lot to learn about life, courage, happiness, and the age-old battle between logic and love.

The Inspiration for Emancipating Andie by Priscilla Glenn

It all began with a girls’ night and a few bottles of wine. (Don’t all great stories start that way?) Somehow we began discussing the topic of “celebrity freebies” and one of my good friends said of her freebie, “I would give anything to be trapped in a room with him for a week.” I didn’t think anything of it that night; in fact, I believe my blood-alcohol content at the time would only allow me to nod furiously and conjure up my own “trapped” fantasy with my celebrity freebie. (Or freebies. I may or may not have three of them. But my husband did approve them all, and that’s what counts, right?)

It was some time the next day that I started thinking about that concept, the whole “trapped for a week with someone” scenario. I understand the idea behind it: you’d love to be isolated with (insert object of fantasy here) so you can treat their body like your own personal amusement park. Totally get it. But if you look at it realistically (not the point of a fantasy, I know - I’m such a party pooper) how long could you actually keep up that charade? If you were really stranded with someone for a week, eventually, you would need a breather, right? So at some point, you would end up simply spending time together. And I thought, “Hmm, I wonder - if I were stranded with (Robert Pattinson, Caleb Followill, or Georges St. Pierre…don’t judge me), would I still swoon for him once the ‘amusement park’ part was over?” I’m sure you would learn a lot about someone, being trapped together for an extended period of time. Would that end up fostering the crush on that person, or extinguishing it?

And then I thought, “Well, what about the reverse? What if you were stuck with someone you hated? Could that ‘trapped’ time together actually end with you liking them?” And voila, the idea for Emancipating Andie was born.

For the record, I would still chance a week trapped with one (or all) of my freebies, knowing it could very well end in disaster. Just felt I should put that out there in case any of them happen to frequent romance book blogs in their spare time.

:) Happy reading!
