Synopsis:

Review:

The Mistress is not a stand-alone. You must read The Original Sinners series in order or you will have missed out on a huge chunk of the story. This story begins with The Siren and that book changed my whole erotica world. There is no other erotica series written that could compete with this series. The Original Sinners series will scandalize you, seduce you, spank you into submission, twist your insides, fuck with your head, and make you fall in love with a kinky priest.

Now let the game begin.

The Queen:

Nora Sutherland, aka the Mistress, has been kidnapped. This story picks up exactly where we were left: with the bitch of a cliffhanger at the end of The Prince. Her kidnapper is Kingsley’s sister and Soren’s wife, Marie-Laure. She’s crazy. She’s vain. She’s ruthless. And she wants revenge against Soren, who should’ve loved her (or more like worshipped her) the way he loves Kingsley and Nora. Nora’s life is now in this crazy woman’s hands and she will do anything to save herself. So, if the crazy woman wants to hear stories from her past with Soren, Kingsley, and the rest of the people in her life that she loves, she will give them to her - even though it pains her to give away those precious memories she cherishes. Nora is free with her sexuality, bold, open and honest, and doesn’t have a deceitful bone in her body when it comes to the people she loves. She loves with all her heart and has sacrificed happiness time and again for the ones she loves. So, how do you explain your world, your life, to someone who could never understand or feel remorse?

The King:

Kingsley Edge, aka King of the Dark Underground makes me weak in the knees… Je t’aime. I love him. He is just as daring, untamable, flippant, and free spirited as Nora. He has been blaming himself for his sister’s death for thirty years. Now he’s faced with the knowledge that his sister is alive and well after all these years. He’s devastated and needs to make things right. Nora and Kingsley have a lot of history together, where they love and hate each other. But mostly they love each other because they both love the same man. Soren. Kingsley has loved Soren ever since they were teenage boys. His love for Soren is deep and intense. Kingsley would sacrifice everything for Soren - which means Nora must be saved and his sister must die.

The Knight:

Wesley Railey, aka The Prince of Kentucky, had just proposed to Nora before he was knocked unconscious and Nora was kidnapped. She said yes... But did she mean it? Wesley feels helpless that he can’t help Nora and he’s scared out of his mind that Nora might be hurt. He rushes to New York to find Soren and Kingsley. He’s forced to play nice with the men that he hates. He doesn’t understand these men. He’s vanilla. They’re kinky dominants that flog and whip their women during foreplay. Yet even though it’s all consensual, Wesley still judges them and cannot accept this lifestyle. And he doesn’t understand that Nora doesn’t need saving from them. The more time he spends with Soren and Kingsley, he starts to figure things out, and everything changes for him.

The Pawn:

Soren’s niece Laila, from Denmark, wanted to surprise Soren with a visit when she became entangled in the game. She’s a sweet, vanilla girl, who loves her Uncle Soren--who is extremely protective of her. I was a little iffy about her being in the story but, by the end, I understood her role in the game. I won’t say much more about her character in the story for fear of giving away spoilers. Just know that her presence changes things greatly and I like the change immensely.

The Rook:

Grace Easton is Zachary’s wife. In The Siren, Nora basically helps Zach and Grace’s marriage when it was falling apart. Grace is in town on holiday. When she calls Nora looking for her to get into some ‘trouble’, she gets Wesley instead. This is how Grace gets involved in the game. I’m not even sure why her part was written in the story. I’m sure the main reason for her presence is because of the way the story ended. (But correct me if I’m missing something here.) Grace gets a happy ending in this story. I just didn’t like it, nor did I understand it. I think Miz Reisz wrote the ending just to fuck with our heads. (lol)

Soren:

I saved the beautiful and the best for last. I still wish we could just once get Soren’s POV. I would love to know what goes on in that brilliant and lovely head of his. He is by far the best man/hero I’ve EVER read in a story. He’s dominant of all dominants. He’s kind, forgiving, devout, loyal, and he loves BIG. He’s also very dangerous and scary. I’m obsessed with this man and wouldn’t mind being whipped and flogged by him. I think my favorite part of this book is the extremely erotic ménage à trois between Kingsley, Nora, and Soren. Good god, it was just so incredibly intense and fiercely hot. I can’t wait to read The Priest. Reading Nora as Soren’s sub is going to be delicious.

So there you have it. The players in a chess game that was cleverly written and all wrapped up nicely by the end. Everyone gets closure and their happy ending. I’m really happy with the direction everyone’s journey took them. I did feel conflicted over how I was going to rate this book. I admit to being slightly bored during some of the Grace and Wesley parts, and much of the book felt like a rehashing of the plot. This may not be my favorite book in the series, but the more I think about it as I write my review, I begin to reconsider my thoughts and feelings on how I felt about the story. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m a book whore and need to come down a notch on my negativity. This book was pretty damn awesome. The Mistress is the provocative, emotional, thrilling, mysterious, daring, deeply layered finale to one of the best erotica series I’ve ever read.
