Review:
Endless Knight picks up directly where Poison Princess left off—Evie completing her first kill by taking out Arthur, the Alchemist, with Jack, Selena, Finn, and Matthew there to witness her in all her Red Witch glory. But Arthur is only one foe down, there are many, many more of them. And getting the heck out of Requiem, Tennessee and getting to her grandmother has become priority number one. But, as most things in Evie's life are, it won't be easy. Militia, cannibals, slavers, bagmen—not to mention the other Arcana—all stand in her way.
Only the strongest will survive this game and Evie has grown so much. No longer afraid of her powers, she is still wary of them. Wary of the feelings and desires they stir up in her. Forced to play a game she never wanted part in, she tries to find her own way. Make new rules. I was so proud of her throughout. Gone is the fumbling, bumbling rich girl and, in her place, is a woman who has become a force to be reckoned with. A leader finding her voice. A girl who may not need Jack to survive as much as she used to think, but who still very much wants him by her side.
Jack. Oh, Jack. I am still a ragin' for that Cajun. He is all sorts of angry and confused. Full of pent up and barely restrained emotions. And the things we thought were true, that we thought we knew about him... Most aren’t close at all. There is so much more to him revealed in this story. We also get to see a different side of him, since Evie no longer needs him like she used to—now that she’s all Frau Badass in her own right. It all added up to me loving him even more than I already did.
Which only made me a confused mess once Death entered the scene. Death is… Well, only this Death could have you begging for his sweet kiss. Complicated? Misunderstood? He is that and much, much more. I don’t want to give anything about his character away, so I’ll just say this: I didn’t believe another could rival my love for Jackson but Death, he gives it a good go. The chemistry between Death and Evie rivals that of Jackson and Evie, which I honestly did not think was possible. Whichever one Evie doesn’t want, I’ll be more than happy to take!
Endless Knight has an unrelenting, non-stop pace so full of action and drama that I literally could not stop reading. Never have I ever read a book so masterfully crafted. Kresley Cole is pure genius. The world she has created is brilliant—so well thought out, so detailed and life like, the words flow like a movie in your head. And the characters? Evie, Jack, Death, Matthew, Selena—each are unique and well-developed and, truthfully, downright awesome. Their powers, their strengths and weakness… a lot is revealed about them. And, by the end of Endless Knight, only six out of the twenty two Major Arcana cards are not yet revealed. This cast is growing into something incredibly awesome with each addition. Bring on the next book! I cannot wait for more Evie, Jack, Death, and the rest of the gang.
Favorite Quote:
There was French kissing, and then there was Cajun French kissing. Spicier, harder, wilder.
That's how it was with Jackson. Burning out of control. Probably just as destructive as an inferno. And I didn't care.
