Review:
So, I have a confession to make: this is my first m/m romance. I’ve read ménage a trois erotica, where there is a female in the mix, but never just two males together. I have to say that I’m pretty happy Ella Frank is the author who popped my m/m cherry. She is one of my favorite authors and I couldn’t have asked for a better author to help expand my horizons. I’m definitely interested in jumping on the m/m bandwagon now.
“Because if you try, you better be ready to...take.”
Logan Mitchell is a successful and sophisticated lawyer. He oozes sex and charm with a splash of sarcasm. He is the epitome of a sexy Alpha male. I was smitten with Logan from the moment I met him in Edible, the third book in Ella Frank's Exquisite series. He discovered, at a young age, that he had a taste for both men and women – whatever floats his sexual boat at the moment. It’s never been hard for him to get anyone in his bed, or on their knees, until he meets Tate, a straight bartender, while at his favorite bar one night. He wants him even knowing his new infatuation is not going to be an easy challenge. But Logan is a persistent man and Logan will have Tate in his bed.
Tate Mitchell’s life changed from the moment he met Logan. This straight (sort of), gorgeous man with his teasing and playful personality gives Logan a good chase before he gets caught. Just coming out of a four year marriage and trying to start fresh, the last thing on his mind is capturing the attention of man, who is a bar regular. The first time Logan hit on him, Tate shrugs off his advances. It wasn’t long until he couldn’t get the charismatic, sexy man off his mind as Logan came into the bar night after night. Tate feels angry that he desires him and utterly confused by his body’s reactions towards Logan. His mind says no but his body is says yes. Tate’s defenses slowly start to crumble the more he sees Logan and, the moment his willpower breaks, they end up in an explosive kiss that rocks his world off its axis. This has Tate questioning everything he thought he knew about himself. Will he accept what he’s feeling for Logan or will he fight it?
There is a huge buildup with a lot of angry and playful banter between them at the beginning of the story, as Tate battles internally with what he’s feeling and Logan is relentlessly pursuing him. Obviously, Tate is not going to jump right into Logan’s bed because, well, he’s straight… or thought he was until he meets Mr. Sex-on-legs. I think Ella Frank does a nice job making me anticipate the moment when Tate finally gives in to his attraction for Logan. And let me tell you… These two are molten HOT. There is a lot of lip biting, dirty talking, magnificent blow jobs, and lots of anal play that definitely had me all hot and bothered. Oh, man, does Ella Frank know how to write some naughty, dirty, filthy, scorching, sizzling sexy times.
"Tate, you're sexy as fuck. The minute I saw you, I got hard. When you opened your mouth I became one hundred percent interested. And when you kissed me? I lost my damn mind. I'll be as patient as I need to, to get you inside me. Anything else?"
This is mostly a character driven story about life-changes, self-discovery, and acceptance. Both Logan and Tate’s character development is well done. Logan, baffled by his need and want to claim Tate as his, didn’t do monogamous relationships until he met Tate. Who knew that the virile and promiscuous man with commitment issues could be tamed by a straight guy. Tate, in turn, continues to struggle with his doubts, worries, and feelings over being with Logan. As Tate starts to discover a whole different side to his sexual tastes, he begins to accept and enjoy the idea of being in a relationship with Logan.
While there was a lot of jealousy and misunderstandings between Logan and Tate, that led to some very angry and steamy sex scenes, there wasn't a whole lot of raw emotional scenes between them until the 70% mark. This was a minor annoyance for me. But I do understand the connection may not have been explored as much because the story spans over only two weeks and this couple starts out as more sexually drawn to each other before their feelings start to grow beyond just lust. So I have a feeling Ella Frank is just getting warmed up and will explore the unresolved issues and emotional connection between them in Take, book two, and most likely put us through the emotional wringer.
Try is a solid debut m/m story by Ella Frank. It’s deliciously scrumptious and kept me intrigued the entire time. I’m officially addicted to Tate and Logan. There is something so utterly sexy about two Alpha males fighting and then fucking it out. These two men fell hard for one another and I was right there with them, loving them the entire time. I really like the dynamic between them and how different they are. I love how they break down each other’s walls as an unlikely relationship is formed. I can’t wait more of their story in Take, which comes out summer 2014 – so far away. *sniffles*

The only m/m I've read are those that also involve a f in some fashion. This looks really interesting, but I must say I'm surprised by Logan's comment " I'll be as patient as I need to, to get you inside me."
ReplyDeleteI thought Logan was all alpha?
Logan is an Alpha, but with Tate he lets him take control since Tate is new to being with a man. There is more to the Alpha/Beta roles in the story. Ella Frank expands some as to why Logan lets Tate top him. I love this book. But I will warn you, your kindle might catch on fire it's so hot. ;) Also, as I mentioned in my review, their are not a whole lot of raw emotions between them until later on. Ella is just getting started if you ask me. ;)
