Review:

Priscilla Glenn has done it again! She has written another lovely and deeply touching story, where I would be laughing and smiling in one scene and then crying uncontrollably in the next scene. Everything Glenn writes feels so effortless and so natural. And I always have such an amazing and unique experience with her stories.

Every year, Leah Marino visits her childhood home around the holidays; reliving the happy memories from when her mother was still alive. This time on her visit, she meets a sweet, old lady named Catherine, who now lives in her childhood home, which results in her meeting Catherine’s grandson, Daniel DeLuca. He’s the first person Leah has found herself drawn to since she caught her boyfriend cheating on her two years ago. And it’s been that long since Leah has dated anyone. She’s afraid to let anyone back into her life after being mentally manipulated and betrayed by someone she thought she loved. In the meantime, she has put all her energy into her teaching job and taking care of her family.

The moment Leah and Danny met, an immediate attraction and connection is formed. Unfortunately, they had to part ways that day. Then fate brings them back together again and they form a friendship, but Leah wants more from the mysterious Danny, who is unpredictable with all the mixed signals and mercurial behavior. He’s harboring a secret he can’t bring himself to tell Leah about. It’s hard on Leah, making her feel insecure, but her feelings for Danny are strong and she’s determined to peel away his layers, refusing to let him walk away from her. Though he promises to tell her eventually, he’s scared he will lose her once she knows the truth.

I liked Leah right away. Leah is the kind of girl who loves deeply and loves hard. She’s genuine, sweet, and strong. She’s also snarky and fun. Losing her mother and having her boyfriend cheat on her were hard obstacles to overcome. But what happens with Danny becomes the ultimate test of her life yet she remained strong through it all. Oh, she had her moments where she wanted to give up, but she put her big girl panties on and kept fighting.

"When you love someone, you don't bail when it gets hard. That's when you stay the most."

I’m totally crushing on Danny. Everything about him makes me weak in the knees - even when he was being a total ass in the beginning. I love his witty sarcasm and his endearing loyalty. I wouldn’t label Danny a bad boy, but he does have an edge to him, and he does protect the ones he loves fiercely. But what is Danny’s big secret? Not knowing his secret kept me in suspense, dying to know! I thought I had it all figured out, until it was revealed. And man, I never saw that coming. My heart broke for him. The author handles this big twist in the story realistically and intelligently. I fell in love with Danny a little bit more when his secret was revealed.

"I need you," he said hoarsely. "I need you, Leah."
"I'm yours," she promised. "Always."

Danny and Leah are freaking adorable! I love the way they playfully bantered back and forth. I honestly laughed out loud many times. What I really love is how Glenn takes her time with the relationship. Their relationship develops gradually as they get to know one another. When they finally become intimate, there were many steamy lovemaking scenes between them. The intense passion and raw emotions that simmered between these two made me melt. This is definitely Glenn’s steamiest book to date.

Coming Home is a slow-burning, character-driven, beautiful story I fell in love with. I was taken on a difficult yet incredibly romantic journey where I felt heartache, happiness, sadness, guilt, regret, determination, forgiveness, and pure unconditional love. I truly connected with this story and the characters. Priscilla Glenn has a way with writing a story that is quiet and heartfelt, but the power in her words tend to sneak up on me when I least expect it, which is when I found myself grabbing for the tissue or smiling uncontrollably. I highly recommend Pricilla Glenn’s Back to You and Emancipating Andie and now Coming Home for those of you who like well-developed characters and well-written contemporary romances with a lot of heart and soul written in the words.
